Position Summary
Madison Academy is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic High School Science Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will create engaging, standards-aligned learning experiences that inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry. The teacher will build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues while maintaining high academic expectations and a supportive classroom environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver effective science instruction aligned with Michigan Academic Standards and NGSS.
- Teach high school science courses, which may include Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, Environmental Science, or Physics.
- Develop and implement engaging laboratory and hands-on learning experiences.
- Use student data to inform instruction and improve academic outcomes.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment.
- Assess student learning regularly and provide timely feedback.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding academic progress and expectations.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support school-wide academic goals and initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Science Education or a related scientific field.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate secondary science endorsement(s), or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
- Commitment to high expectations and student achievement.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Education, Science, or a related field.
- Experience teaching high school science.
- Experience working in an urban or diverse school setting.
- Knowledge of inquiry-based and project-based learning strategies.
- Familiarity with educational technology and data-driven instruction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of scientific concepts and laboratory safety procedures.
- Ability to engage students through hands-on and inquiry-based learning.
- Effective organizational and time-management skills.
