About the Role
Schrader Pacific in Altavista, VA is seeking an experienced IBM i (AS/400) Programmer Analyst to join our IT team. This is a hands‑on development and support role focused on maintaining and enhancing our mission‑critical IBM i applications.
If you are strong in RPG (RPG III, RPG IV, RPGLE) and CL programming, and you enjoy working directly with business users to solve real operational challenges, this is an excellent opportunity to join a stable, long‑established manufacturing organization.
This position is 100% on‑site at our Altavista, VA facility. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform using RPG and CL
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Support, troubleshoot, and enhance existing IBM i applications
- Collaborate with business analysts, end‑users, and IT team members
- Write and maintain technical documentation
- Ensure system reliability, performance, and data integrity
- Participate in modernization efforts as needed (SQLRPGLE, Free‑Format RPG, etc.)
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands‑on IBM iSeries (AS/400) programming experience
- Strong proficiency in CL programming
- Strong proficiency in RPG (RPG III, RPG IV, RPGLE)
- Experience with DB2/400 and SQL on IBM i
- Solid understanding of IBM i architecture, tools, and operational concepts
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities
- Associate degree required
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience with SQLRPGLE or Free‑Format RPG
- Experience with IBM i modernization projects
- Manufacturing or distribution industry experience
